Match preview: Wormley Rovers (A)

13 January 2025

Tomorrow, The Wood are back in Herts Senior Cup action as we travel to Wormley Playing Fields to face Wormley Rovers, with kick-off at 19:45.

Last season for the Worms

It was a historic year for Wormley Rovers. After they finished second in the Eastern Counties Division One South, they qualified for the playoffs. The Worms won the final 2-1 against Dunmow Town FC to earn promotion to the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

Form guide

The Worms are currently on a positive run of form, winning three of their last five matches in all competitions, as well as one draw and one loss. Their only defeat in the last five games came in the Gladwish Challenge Trophy away at fellow Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side London Lions, where they lost 2-0 after goals from Max Davis and Zak Jackson.

Their recent unbeaten run began at home with a 7-2 demolition of Kempston Rovers at Wormley Playing Fields. This was followed by a 2-0 home win in their last Herts Senior Cup match against Kings Langley, thanks to goals from Sam Bajah and George Beattie.

The Worms then drew 1-1 with Potton United in a disappointing result. After Declan Nche broke the deadlock for Wormley Rovers, a 90+3 minute equaliser earned Potton United a point from their travels. Their most recent match was in the league at home to FC Romania, where they came from behind to win 2-1 after trailing by one goal in the first half.

One to watch

The Wood will hope to keep Ibrahim Kehinde quiet tomorrow night. He has been the main man for the Worms this season, scoring ten goals in 16 games across all competitions.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s side have carried their strong form from 2024 into the new year. A comprehensive 5-1 victory over Slough Town on New Year’s Day got the year off to a positive start for The Wood, with Kwesi Appiah netting a hat-trick and debutant Matt Rush adding a brace.

In our most recent match, we secured a 2-1 win at Weymouth in the Isuzu FA Trophy Fourth Round. After a tight first half, The Wood took the lead through another goal from Matt Rush in the 61st minute. Jon Benton then sealed the victory with a goal in the 84th minute, despite a late stoppage-time strike from Andy Robinson.

After the disappointment of Saturday’s game being postponed, The Wood will be looking to return to action with another win.
