Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side host Sutton United as we look to break the 90-point mark with a win as we head into the play-offs, with kick-off at 12:30.
After the 2023/24 season ended in Sutton United’s relegation from Sky Bet League Two, Steve Morison’s side finish 12th in their first season back in the Enterprise National League, eight points off Southend United in the final play-off spot.
An experienced shot-stopper who signed from Chelmsford City at the start of the year, Chris Haigh has played a key role in retaining Sutton’s fifth tier status. The 28-year-old reunited with his former Worthing boss Chris Agutter in the process and has previously played for several non-league outfits including Concord Rangers, Oxford City and Ebbsfleet United.
Having put on a show in a dominant 3-0 win over Hartlepool United thanks to a Matt Rush hat-trick, we made the trip to relegated Morecambe in our final away clash of the regular season. It was a convincing showing throughout and Abdul Abdulmalik made the dominance count on 27 minutes with his strike before two substitutes, Joe Newton and Lewis Richardson netted in second half injury time, extending the lead to three.
It was a thriller when we made the trip to the VBS Community Stadium in early September as the Wood secured a dramatic 4-3 victory. Despite Jeff King breaking the deadlock on 10 minutes, the U’s went in at the break with the lead thanks to goals from Jayden Harris and Lewis Simper before Abdulmalik drew level 20 minutes into the second half.
We restored our lead five minutes from time with Zak Brunt calmly slotting home from the spot before Erico Sousa made sure of the points three minutes after the 90. Edon Pruti looked to make things interesting as he reduced the deficit two minutes later with an incredible strike from distance, but we held on to extend our unbeaten run at the time to five matches.
