Match preview: Morecambe (A)

17 April 2026

Luke Garrard’s side are Lancashire bound for the final away game of the regular season as we lock horns with relegated Morecambe at 15:00 tomorrow.

The Shrimps

The 2024/25 campaign was one to forget for the Shrimps as their 18-year-long stay in the Football League came to an end with relegation to step one of the non-league pyramid.

Plagued by off-field financial issues throughout the summer which put the club’s existence into doubt, Ashvir Singh Johal was put in charge and assembled a new squad. After having suffered defeat in the majority of his games in charge, Johal was replaced by Jim Bentley in February.

Unfortunately for the Shrimps, after the limited time Jim Bentley and his side have had together, they were unable to avoid the drop to step two with their relegation to the National League North confirmed after defeat at Woking on Saturday.

One to watch

A dynamic midfielder who was on the books at Arsenal, Miguel Azeez arrived at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium in the summer and has been a bright spark in a disappointing season for the Shrimps.

The 23-year-old has previously gained experience playing abroad in Spain and Greece with UD Ibiza, CD Atlético Baleares, and PAS Giannina respectively. Azeez has also had stints in the EFL with Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic.

The Wood

It was an afternoon to remember in WD6 last time out as we hosted Hartlepool United. The first half saw little to report on, but Matt Rush would ultimately write the headlines as he netted a second half hat-trick to secure a vital 3-0 victory.

Previous meetings

We faced the Shrimps in early September and the Wood came away with a magnificent 3-0 win. Lewis Richardson made the early dominance count as he broke the deadlock on seven minutes before Matt Rush doubled the advantage with a stunning strike from the edge of the box.

The Wood number 32 wasn’t done there though as he made it three in the second half, capitalising on a well-executed set piece routine which saw him calmly slot the ball home and secure his brace on 66 minutes.
