Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men travel to South East London for our Vanarama National League South fixture against Welling United, kicking off at 15:00.
Last Season for the Wings
Welling United finished 17th in the Vanarama National League South, with 12 wins, 18 draws, and 16 losses. Although comfortably outside the relegation zone, the Wings will be looking to move up the table this season.
Form Guide
The Wings have been struggling in recent weeks, with only one win in their last five games, losing the other four. On Boxing Day, they lost narrowly to mid-table Chelmsford City after conceding an 85th-minute winner scored by Osmon Foyo. Welling United were once again on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline, this time away at Maidstone United on New Year’s Day. The Stones’ dominance in the match paid off after a 65th-minute Aaron Blair goal, which secured the three points for the high-flying home side.
The Wings responded to the disappointing results with a 2-1 home win against Weymouth. Goals from Riccardo Di Trolio and Zain Walker won the three points for Welling, even after a Jordan Thompson consolation in the 90th minute.
However, the win could not change their fortunes, as they lost their last two matches. The Wings suffered a 3-1 defeat at table-topping Torquay United and a 3-2 home loss against Hampton & Richmond, continuing their poor run of form.
Last Time We Met
Boreham Wood thrashed Welling United 6-0 in Luke Garrard’s first match back at Meadow Park. Six different scorers helped Wood dominate throughout, with Jack Payne opening the scoring. Erico Sousa converted a penalty, and Junior Dixon added a third. Welling struggled, despite substitutions improving their play. Gus Mafuta scored a stunning fourth, before Appiah added a fifth. Abdulmalik, who had been lively since he came off the bench, completed the rout with a sixth. Wood were relentless, securing a comprehensive victory.
One to Watch
Gene Kennedy will be one for the Wood Army to look out for. After joining this summer from EFL side Colchester United, the 21-year-old midfielder has scored six goals in the Vanarama National League South so far this season and will be looking to add to that tally against the Wood.
The Wood
The Wood will be looking to extend their eight-match unbeaten streak in the league tomorrow afternoon. After a strong start to the year, with an impressive 5-1 demolition of Slough Town and a 2-1 away win over Weymouth, the Wood suffered their first defeat of 2025 against Wormley Rovers in the Herts Senior Cup.
After early goals from Josh Asiedu, Louis Offer, and Regle Masanya, Wood struggled to find their rhythm, despite several chances, including efforts from Junior Dixon and Adam Morley. Abdul Abdulmalik pulled one back for Wood, but Ryan Stevenson sealed victory for Wormley late on to secure a place in the next round of the Herts Senior Cup.
