SCFYL CHAMPIONS CUP FINAL

U18s2

Wood travelled to Grays Athletic for the Champions of Champions Final and in search of a double trophy winning season after narrowly missing out on the SCFYL Brian Hitchings Cup on Monday night at Meadow Park.

Early encounters from both sides who were both in fine form, showed for an open exciting affair.  With Wood missing their experienced Centre Half Sam Doolan after being stretchered off on Monday night in their 2 – 1 Brian Hitchings Cup defeat to Luton, it was for stand in skipper Karl Brown to steal the show.

Grays took a lead midway through the first half after a well delivered set piece deep into the Wood box and for the Grays Centre midfielder to head home from close range, Grays looked likely to score a second but on form keeper McAteer displayed some fine goalkeeping on to keep the deficit ast a single goal.

Late in the first half Wood grabbed a goal a well worked set piece for Jack Vasey goal bound effort to be deemed as hand ball, it was then Raheem Sterling Parker who stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to bring the score line level.

Both Wood and Grays had chances to take the game, but it was left for Brown ever present this year to take the plaudits after Hastings effort was saved, Brown followed up with an accurate volley to win the tie 2-1 on the night and secure Boreham Woods status as the SCFYL Champions of champions and also make it a double winning season..

Manager Luke Garrard commented “ I was extremely pleased in the manner in which the boys reacted, we went a goal down and to bounce back and win the tie showed great character.  They have had a tremendous season and some of them will experience this again next year.  They have been a pleasure and deserve the rest now.  To regain both the League Title and Champions of Champions is no mean feat and they have proven they are a force”

Manager Luke Garrard followed with “ 4 or 5 of the boys will be invited back to take place in the First Team pre season, and with hard work and a good attitude I’m sure they will take the eye of the Gaffer”
