MATCH REPORT: BOREHAM WOOD VS NORTH FERRIBY UNITED

Wood made it four wins on the spin, after beating North Ferriby United 1-0 at Meadow Park this afternoon. Wood created plenty of chances in the first half, as Ferriby came to contain and on another day could quite easily have won this by 3 or 4..

Luke Garrard decided to make 2 changes from the side that progressed in last week’s FA Cup. In came Femi Ilesanmi in his customary left back position, whilst Kenny Davis slotted back in to the heart of the Wood midfield..

Danny Woodards dropped to the bench, while Morgan Ferrier was unable to shake off the ankle injury that he sustained last week and dropped out of the squad..

Wood started much the brighter of the two sides, as Anthony Jeffrey with acres of space out on the left, cut back onto his right foot, whipped a ball towards the far post. Bruno Andrade got above his man but headed tamely into the arms of Rory Watson.

Anthony Jeffrey was again gifted space, as he picked the ball up from Femi Ilesanmi, and sent a glorious ball into the box, where he found Angelo Balanta, whose deft touch forced the Ferriby keeper Rory Watson into a fine save, as he pushed Balanta’s goal bound effort round the post and out for a corner..

It was Bruno Andrades turn next, as he fed Ben Nunn on the overlap, who delivered a wicked cross into the penalty box, Anthony Jeffrey arrived first, his first touch was very good, but his volley was always rising and it sailed over the bar and the chance was lost..

Wood continued to knock on the door, when Kenny Davis came deep to pick up the ball, he played a neat pass into Daniel Uchechi. The Nigerian turned and played in the influential Angelo Balanta, who took a touch before shooting across goal and off target.

On a rare foray our of their own half, Ferriby’s Stephen Brogan whipped a great ball into the Wood box. that deceived everyone, except calm Grant Smith who was on hand to collect the ball comfortably.

Anthony Jeffrey was starting to influence things, as he once again got the better of Ferriby fullback Sam Topliss, He delivered a terrific ball into the box for Kenny Davis who came from deep, as the midfield maestro’s sent is effort narrowly wide of the far post.

Out of nothing though Ferriby, nearly stole the lead, when completely against the run of play, Connor Oliver had a strike from distance, that looked to be heading for the top corner. However Wood custodian Grant Smith, saw things differently as he leapt and with an unbelievable fingertip steered the ball onto the bar to keep the game goalless at the break.

Wood started the second half as they meant to go on. Daniel Uchechi found himself unusually out wide on the right. It was his ball into the box that was flicked on by Angelo Balanta to Anthony Jeffrey, who took a touch before firing an unstoppable shot past Rory Watson.

From here on in, Wood totally dominated as Femi Ilesanmi, Woods marauding full back ventured forward, easing past three North Ferriby players, before moving the ball onto his right foot but his shot was blocked and went out for yet another corner..

Steve Houlsham the Ferriby manager, had seen enough at this point and went after an equaliser by altering his formation to a 3-4-3, as questions for the first time, were starting to be asked of the Wood backline who held firm.

Still though Wood had chances to put the game to bed, as firstly Angelo Balanta again forced a fine save from Rory Watson. The rebound though then fell to Ricky Shakes, who picked up the loose ball, but couldn’t get enough power on it to force it beyond Taron Hare who cleared his goalbound effort off the line.

Wood’s last chance was to go begging in injury time.. As second half substitute Adriano Moke, picked the ball up on the edge of the Ferriby box, he cut inside, steadied himself, before curling a shot that looked destined for the top corner. Unfortunately for both Moke and the Wood faithful, Ferriby keeper Rory Watson was having none of it, and he leapt to his left to produce a truly top draw save turn it wide..
