Over 130 young scholars were in attendance at Meadow Park on Tuesday morning, bringing both talent and the sunshine with them, for what was the second of 6 BW PASE Academy trials that are to be be held at Meadow Park.
They were all given an introductory talk by the Wood Chairman Danny Hunter and our first team manager Luke Garrard, about the pluses and minuses of what has become a well renowned Sports/Education programme nationally.
Upon arrival the group was split into two, half going to our secondary site Old Elizabethans and the other half staying at Meadow Park. Both groups were put through their paces on the training pitches by the Academy staff and members of the first team playing squad. This was followed by a facility, classroom and stadium tour and a talk with our education provider Barnet And Southgate College.
Academy Manager Billy Hunter said “For a second trial the number of attendees was simply amazing. Our scheme is based on good attitudes, discipline and desire from both students and staff. While we pride ourselves on no hidden costs as our scheme is free. People know we’ll go the extra mild and work hard to continue our record of achievement and excellence within the Academy”
“Our success on the field this year is also a massive factor in our numbers and with two National Cups finals coming up, we will i hope continue to push on.
“Our Academy captain Ben Goodliffe, recently signed for Championship club Wolves and it again shows the importance of the clubs work ethic and ADD factor. We drill it into the boys Attitude, Discipline and Desire, and those three simple words resonate. Ben had the ADD factor in abundance and as an Academy we are very proud to have produced yet another league player.
“The coaches were also very impressed with what they saw at the trial today and that bodes well for the boys and schemes future. Our PASE Academy is coming into a really exciting time with the new training facility about to be built and we hope these young players can continue to help us and themselves grow and develop.”
