Zak Brunt is a talented and dynamic midfielder whose technical quality, creativity and eye for goal have established him as one of the National League’s standout performers. After developing in the prestigious academies of Aston Villa, Manchester City and Sheffield United, Brunt also spent time at Derby County and gained invaluable experience through training spells with Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid. At just 16 years old, he made the bold decision to step into senior football with Matlock Town before returning to Sheffield United, where he progressed through the ranks and made his first-team debut in the EFL Cup in 2021.
Loan spells with Southend United and Notts County provided further National League experience before Brunt first arrived at Boreham Wood in 2022. His impressive performances during that spell made him a firm favourite with supporters and, after a permanent move to Barnet, he returned to Meadow Park on loan for a second spell in August 2025.
‘Brunty’ quickly became the heartbeat of Luke Garrard’s midfield, combining composure in possession with an outstanding goal threat. Following a club-record permanent transfer from Barnet, he signed a contract until the summer of 2028, with the option of a further year. Instrumental in the Wood’s promotion push, Brunt earned a place in the 2025/26 National League Team of the Season, cementing his reputation as one of the division’s elite midfielders.
