Clayden’s professional career began with Leyton Orient, where he made his senior debut on the final day of the 2017/18 National League season against Gateshead. His talents caught the eye of Charlton Athletic, leading to a move on a free transfer in May 2019.
Despite limited opportunities with the Addicks, Clayden gained valuable experience on loan with spells at Dulwich Hamlet, Wealdstone and Bromley, however Clayden would depart the Valley to join one of his former loan clubs, Wealdstone, on a permanent basis in March 2023. Less than a year later, Wood would acquire Charles’ services from Wealdstone from an undisclosed fee in November 2023.
