UNION JACK

4 March 2014

Jack VaseyPASE ACADEMY U18s Captain Jack Vasey, was a contented player after making his first team debut in Wood’s 7 nil demolition of Tonbridge Angels in the Skrill Conference South on Saturday.

A member of Wood’s Under-18 and 19 Academy squads, Manager Ian Allinson called the teenage forward/midfielder into the squad after impressing in training over the past few weeks. The 17-year-old came on as a substitute 15 minutes from time and showed great movement and touch, aligned to bundles of confidence.

Vasey is still only a 2nd year PASE student studying a BTEC L3 in Sport and has been a key feature for the u/18 elite PASE team this season. He has now been training with the 1st Team for the last 4 weeks and has been performing well enough for Allinson to include the youngster in his plans.

Though a natural Forward, the Stevenage born player, is also comfortable playing in a holding role or as an attacking midfield player.. Academy Director Luke Garrard was pleased with Jack’s contribution, saying “he showed awareness and a good understanding of his role on the pitch and he has now earned the right to be in and around the squad, with the progress and attitude he has shown all season”..

Jack added “It was great to make my debut for the club, I’ve been working hard and trying to impress, so it’s been a great experience to be training with the 1st Team. The PASE Academy coaches have helped me develop and improve as a player and I believe I am progressing steadily and just grateful to have an opportunity to play at this level and keep improving myself”..

Another PASE Academy player Karl Brown, who is now a 3rd year scholar, also played a part in Saturday’s conference south victory. Karl who had made his full first team debut earlier this season, showed once again why he is rated so highly by the club with another accomplished performance, coming on as a substitute for the last twenty minutes and looking very assured.
