UNDER 18’s ADVANCE IN FA YOUTH CUP

3 October 2012

Four days before ‘Wood’s’ First Team travel to Middlesex to take on Northwood in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup, ‘Wood’s’ under 18’s continued their FA Youth Cup journey by beating Essex outfit Thurrock.

‘Wood’ advanced to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup for the sixth consecutive season following a 2 – 0 victory at Thurrock with goals from Robert Hastings and Junior Abass. Our youngsters will now take on their fourth Essex side away in this year’s competition when they face Canvey Island in a fortnights time.

Thus far in this year’s competition Wood have comprehensively beaten Bower & Pitsea, Tilbury and Thurrock, conceding just 1 goal whilst scoring 14 in the process. Robert Hasting’s opening goal against Thurrock meant he has scored in every round of the cup this season, and hopefully he can continue his fine form in weeks and months to come.

Academy Director, Luke Garrard, said “This was far from our best performance, but we have travelled to Essex to play a good Thurrock side, the team that knocked out of last years competition, and won – so it was very satisfying.”
