Boreham Wood Football Club would like to wish its seven England Colleges trialists good luck ahead of the trials today.
Abdei and Abdalah Sahnoun, Hamza Sembulka, Jack Wilmot, Sammy Leonard-Mould, Charlie Wickham and Carlos Simao have all been selected by the club to attend the England Colleges Phase One Trials. The trials will take place at Oaklands today.
A record breaking five players made the England Colleges squad last year, and the chosen seven will be hoping to follow in their footsteps.
The five who made the squad last year were Daniel Creese, Alex Morgan, Iliman Ndiaye, Archie Pepper and Cheyce Grant.
Creese, Morgan and Ndiaye have all since been involved with the Wood’s first team.
Sorba Thomas and Fred Burbidge, who represented England Colleges in the season before, have also been heavily involved in the Wood first team.
Thomas in particular has cemented his place as a key member of the squad, even coming on to feature in the Promotion Final at Wembley.
“They are seven who are of a calibre, but it is going to be tough,” Head PASE Coach Cameron Mawer assessed.
“Obviously, last year we got five boys in and trying to match that is going to be next to impossible, but there are two or three who I think will really interest the coaches and it is a fantastic opportunity.
“The boys who went last year really enjoyed it and they learned so much. It ends with the tour in Italy, so what an opportunity to represent the football club and have a great experience.
“I always say to the boys, it is something that they can never take away from you. The moment that you represent your country, for the rest of your life, whether it is your kids, your grandkids, your great grandkids, you can tell them that you played for England.
“It is a great platform for the club and it is excellent that we can give them that opportunity, so hopefully they go and take their chance.”
Everyone at Boreham Wood would like to wish the seven players all the best ahead of the trials.
