PRESTON EDWARDS

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of experienced goalkeeper Preston Edwards on a season long loan deal from Ebbsfleet United.

Edwards started his career at Millwall and made his debut in the League cup coming on as a sub against Swansea City. After rejecting a new deal at Millwall, Edwards signed for Grays Athletic at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. After just one season at Grays, Preston decided it was time to move on and subsequently signed for Ebbsfleet United.

To date Preston has amassed over 200 appearances for the Fleet, been selected for England C  and earned plenty of plaudits at Conference National level for his performances. Despite signing a new deal with Ebbsfleet only last season, he is now deemed surplus to requirements and was available…

Preston will arrive at ‘the Wood’ to compete for the number one jersey, with our regular keeper James Russell. James has been in terrific form over the last few seasons and in fact made the Conference South team of the year which was very pleasing..

On the completion of the season long loan Wood gaffer Ian Allinson said “Preston was available at a price I felt we could afford. I’ve always liked him as a keeper, as a character and as a someone who commands his back four”..

“All keepers need to be given the confidence and encouragement to perform and not worry too much about the odd mistake. Though I was happy to go with just one keeper in the Conference South, that is now not the case with the transfer window that operates in the National division”..

“I really do need two very good keepers at a certain level to compete with each other, Rusty Russell and Preston Edwards will give me that and I think they will both improve for the experience”.. Allinson concluded.
