Tuesday 25 July, 2023, 7.45pm
The Lantern Stadium, Pre-Season Friendly

The Wood face Isthmian Premier side Potters Bar Town as Luke Garrard’s men look to bounce back from a disappointing defeat on Saturday to Wingate & Finchley FC and continue to build fitness towards the fast-approaching Vanarama National League season.

Potters Bar Town was founded in 1960 and originally known as the Mount Grace Old Scholars. The school’s first team were having a good season, but many of the boys were due to leave at Easter. It was then that Ken Barrett; the P.E. Master of Mount Grace School asked them and old ‘Scholars’ to support him in raising a team. They were accepted into the Barnet & District League in 1960. In 1965, the Barnet & District and Finchley & District Leagues merged to form the North London Combination. By 1967/68 Potters Bar Town had won the Premier Division and the Reserves the Division 1 title and were admitted to Division 2 of the Herts County League.

In more recent history Potters Bar got promoted from the Bostik League Division One North to the Bostik Premier League in the 2017–18 season by finishing second. They secured promotion with a 3–0 win against Barking. During the 2019–20 season Potters Bar Town were drawn against our local rivals Barnet in the FA Cup qualifying fourth round. The BBC selected the game to live-stream making this the first full live game in Potters Bar history. The game finished 1–1 with the Scholars scoring in the 101st minute of injury time to force a replay. However, at The Hive they lost 3–1.

Potters Bar finished the season in 13th place in the Isthmian premier division, they will be looking to improve certain areas next season as they finished the campaign with a –30 goal difference only scoring 56 goals while conceding 86. Their league record for the season was: 16-5-21 (W-D-L) finishing on 53 points. The scholars had a disappointing run-in cup competitions last year only reaching the FA cup 2nd qualifying round after losing 2-1 to Romford at home, they exited the Herts senior cup in the second round after a 3-2 loss to Hitchin Town and the FA trophy after losing 2-0 to Heybridge Swifts

Calvin Dickson is the longest serving player in the current Potters Bar Town squad and is now entering his third season with the club, he is a key figure in the Potters Bar squad making 43 appearances last season, he is a versatile player who can play as a defender or as a midfielder. Dickson also possesses a dangerous long throw.

Potters Bar Town 1 – 1 Boreham Wood
Tuesday 26 July 2022
The Lantern Stadium, Pre-Season Friendly

We traveled to the Lantern Stadium last year for our penultimate game of pre-season. The Scholars opened the scoring inside ten minutes after a glancing header from Kaiser took a deflection that took it beyond Nathan Ashmore. The Wood went into the break trailing; however, we got off to a brilliant start when a ball was delivered from the left-hand side and Kpohomoh headed the ball into his own net bringing the scores level. The Wood were unable to find a winner and the game finished all square
