This Wednesday Wood are in Cup Final action for the first time in six years! Our opponents at the Herts F A County Ground in Letchworth will be our fellow Skrill South rivals Bishops Stortford.

The outcome of this tie on paper will be a tough one to call. Stortford sit just one point and one place above us in mid table. In the League we have drawn 2-2 at Meadow Park, whilst winning 1-3 back in December at Woodside Park.

Our last visit to the County Ground back in 2008 resulted in a 5-2 win against Ware. Our opponents have been there twice since in the same competition and on both occasions came home with the silverware. A 4-0 win against Cheshunt in 2010 was followed up with a resounding thrashing of Oxhey Jets 7-2 two years later. Stortford have been involved in a dress rehearsal already this season at the County Ground, defeating Hitchin Town in the Charity Cup Final, just six days before this Final.

Our path to the County Ground came courtesy of a 2-3 win at Berkhamsted Town back in December, when two goals from Austin Lipman and one from Anthony Jeffrey, both since departed saw us advance. We did rely on a quite superb last minute save from substitute keeper James Courtnage however to avoid the annoyance of extra time!
On the same night Stortford beat a stubborn Cheshunt 2-0 with goals from Reece Prestedge and one Cliff Akurang!

Stortford’s Quarter Final was won in January with a 3-0 win against a very youthful Barnet side who were no match for The Blues. Then, a week prior to our double header Stortford beat runaway Calor League South Champions Hemel Hempstead 3-0 at home, admittedly both sides fielded weakened sides, to book their place in the Final.

We finally got our Quarter Final scheduled in a gruelling period when we played four games in eight days. A young but extremely talented Watford side were dispatched 2-0 with goals from Junior Morias and Matty Whichelow, meaning a tough trip to Hitchin Town in the Semi Final just three days later. The boys took it seriously and Lee Angol’s 24th minute strike booked our place in the Final.

This is a competition that both the Manager and the players desperately want to win and your support is vital to achieving our goal . It promises to be a real night of Cup action so make a date to hopefully celebrate some silverware. The team will be very much up for it!
