Billy Clifford

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of the highly rated midfielder Billy Clifford.

Billy began his career at Chelsea in 2010.. Although he never made a league appearance for the blues he was involved in a Pre-Season friendly against Ajax in 2010 and was on the bench for their Champions League game against Spartak Moscow.

In September 2011, Billy signed a new four year contract with the club and In 2013 was loaned to Colchester United to get some first team experience and was instrumental in helping them survive. Following that positive experience he went to Belgium on loan to join Jimmy Floyd Hasslebainks, who at the time managed Royal Antwerp.

On his return to England, Billy agreed to mutually cancel his contract to gain and joined League one Walsall on a 6 month contract appearing 18 times for the saddlers before leaving the club.

Ian Allinson was delighted with the signing and said “I knew very little of Billy Clifford until last week but his pedigree is clearly evident. We invited him in to train, play a couple of games as I wanted to have a good look at him. I knew after the first training session that he was technically at another level but I needed to see if he was hungry and in truth he’s also been excellent in the games. So signing him was a no brainer and sometimes players just need people to believe in them to rebuild their careers and with Billy Clifford we can help him get back on track very quickly”..
