Match preview: York City (H)

3 March 2026

Tonight, Luke Garrard’s side will be hoping to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing defeat at Tamworth as we welcome table-topping York City, with kick-off at 19:45.

Last season for the Minstermen

A total of 96 points should normally be enough to secure promotion, but due to Barnet’s persistence throughout last term, York had to settle for a place in the Play-Offs.

Finishing in second place meant they had a home fixture against Oldham Athletic, a fixture where they fell to a 3-0 defeat to the eventual Promotion Final winners.

One to watch

A ruthless striker who has already netted 28 league goals this campaign, Ollie Pearce is spearheading York City’s promotion charge. The 30-year-old arrived in Yorkshire ahead of the 2024/25 season from Worthing, playing an integral role in their second-place finish and netting a National League goal on 31 occasions.

The Wood

Following an excellent 2-0 away victory at Southend United on Tuesday night, the Wood fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat to Tamworth last time out. Oli Lynch netted the opener on 24 minutes before the lead was doubled courtesy of Stefan Mols seven minutes into the second half.

Matt Rush continued his sublime goal scoring run though as he halved the deficit six minutes later before Lynch grabbed the Lambs’ third with 61 minutes on the clock. Another Rush strike 14 minutes from time didn’t prove to be enough as we remain in fourth place.

Previous meetings

It was an entertaining affair when we made the trip up to the LNER Community Stadium in October as the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw. Matt Rush broke the deadlock inside two minutes, but Alex Newby cancelled out an excellent first-half showing as he equalised in the fifth minute of additional time. Nevertheless, Rush restored the one-goal cushion with 66 minutes on the clock before Ryan Fallowfield drew level at the death.
