Match preview: Slough Town (A)

17 April 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side travel to Berkshire for our National League South fixture against Slough Town, kicking off at 15:00.

Last Season for the Rebels

After grabbing 18 wins, playing out 14 draws, and suffering 14 losses, the Rebels picked up a total of 68 points in the Vanarama National League South last season. This led to a 10th-place finish for player-manager Scott Davies’ side, ending the campaign just five points off the play-off places, helped in part by their impressive home form.

Form Guide

The Rebels currently find themselves 16th in the form table after a mixed run, which includes two wins, one draw, and three losses. Despite this poor form, Scott Davies’ side haven’t lost at Arbour Park since February’s 2-1 defeat to mid-table Chippenham Town, and they’ll be looking to extend that unbeaten home run against the Wood tomorrow afternoon.

Slough’s previous outing was a 2-0 defeat away to high-flying Torquay United at Plainmoor. The visitors endured a poor first half, which saw Guy Hollis sent off and Gulls’ striker Cody Cooke score just before the half-time interval. Although Slough started the second half slightly stronger, Torquay doubled their lead through EFL veteran Matt Jay, rounding off the scoring in Devon.

Last Time We Met

Boreham Wood began 2025 in style with a dominant 5-1 win over Slough Town, thanks to a second-half masterclass. Kwesi Appiah netted another hat-trick to maintain his place as the league’s top scorer, while substitute Matt Rush came off the bench to add a well-taken brace.

Appiah opened the scoring from the spot on 18 minutes after Charles Clayden was brought down, but Slough quickly responded, levelling through Leon Parillon. Both sides created chances in an even first half, with Jon Benton striking the bar and Tom Whelan seeing his shot cleared off the line.

After the break, Wood took control. Appiah restored the lead on 65 minutes following good work from Abdul Abdulmalik, and Rush made it three shortly after. Slough’s John Gilbert was then sent off before Appiah completed his hat-trick with a fine header. Rush added a fifth late on and nearly secured a third, rounding off a commanding performance from Luke Garrard’s side.

One to Watch

Bulgarian striker Slavi Spasov will be one to watch tomorrow afternoon after a recent spell of good form. After becoming the Rebels’ regular starting striker following Nathan Minhas’ departure in the summer, Spasov has recorded an impressive 13 goals and five assists in the Vanarama National League South this season and will be looking to add to that tally against the Wood.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s men will be aiming to make it three wins on the bounce this Good Friday, following back-to-back home victories over Salisbury and Hemel Hempstead. After suffering three straight defeats which saw Wood drop out of the title race, we now appear to be hitting form at the right time to push for a play-off campaign.

The Wood secured a 3-0 win over local rivals Hemel Hempstead at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium, Meadow Park. Although the Tudors dominated the early stages, it was the hosts who took the lead through Erico Sousa’s 30th-minute penalty. Wood continued to control the rest of the game, with Matt Rush adding a second in the 53rd minute, before Sousa completed his brace to round off an impressive performance in Hertfordshire.
