Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men travel to Hemel Hempstead Town in the Vanarama National League South, kicking off at 19:45.
Hemel Hempstead Town narrowly avoided relegation from the Vanarama National League South. The Tudors finished the season in 20th place, just four points clear of the relegation zone, with a record of 13 wins, 11 draws, and 22 losses.
The Tudors are enjoying a strong run of form, which has helped them climb back into mid-table after struggling for results before the turn of the new year. Their only loss in their last five games was a 1-0 away defeat to Chesham United on New Year’s Day. The Generals’ striker Joe Grant scored just before half-time to secure the win for the Vanarama National League South newcomers.
Hemel Hempstead responded with a run of three wins against sides above them in the league table. The Tudors won decisively against Slough Town at the Focus Community Arena with a 4-1 victory, three of the goals coming in the last 20 minutes. An early goal from youngster Oli Lynch at the Saunders Transport Community Stadium was enough to earn the Tudors a win against Farnborough. Their third victory came at home against promotion hopefuls Truro City, where an impressive display secured a 3-0 win over the Tinners.
The Tudors’ most recent match ended in an away draw at Weston-super-Mare. A 52nd-minute goal from Kai Brosnan put Hemel Hempstead ahead, but the lead was short-lived as Luke Coulson converted a penalty 15 minutes later.
Boreham Wood earned a 1-0 victory at home in March 2015 to keep their promotion hopes alive. Wood controlled possession in a tight match, creating early chances through Angol and Cox. McMahon’s quick throw-in set up Morias for the decisive goal. Hemel responded with a formation change and second-half pressure, but Wood’s defence, led by Hill and Reynolds, stood firm. Russell denied Lee’s header, while Hemel missed key opportunities. Late chances from Kabamba and Whichelow couldn’t alter the result, as Wood finished stronger. Ian Allinson’s side secured a deserved victory despite the narrow scoreline.
Brandon Barzey will be one for Wood to keep an eye on tomorrow evening. The Montserrat international has been a regular in the side and has scored six goals this season, mostly from the left wing.
Wood will be looking to return to strong form, especially after suffering three consecutive defeats. Luke Garrard’s side lost their first game since November against Chippenham Town at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park. The Bluebirds netted four goals that afternoon in a result Wood will be keen to forget.
Boreham Wood failed to bounce back with a win in their next match at Worthing, which finished 2-1 to the hosts. Kwesi Appiah put Wood ahead after nine minutes, but the momentum shifted after Chris Bush was sent off in the 31st minute. Two second-half goals secured the Rebels the win and put them top of the table.
Wood then had a break from Vanarama National League South action with an away tie at Aldershot Town in the Isuzu FA Trophy. Although the sides were goalless at the break, second-half goals from Jack Barnham and Kai Corbett earned the Shots a place in the last eight of the competition.
