Match Preview: Hampton & Richmond Borough (H)

10 January 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men host Hampton & Richmond Borough in the Vanarama National League South, kicking off at 15:00.

Last Season for the Beavers

Hampton & Richmond Borough ended last season just one point off the playoff positions, finishing ninth with 72 points. A poor end to the season, with just one win in their final five fixtures, saw the Beavers fall just short.

Form Guide

The Beavers have had a mixed run of form recently, winning once, losing once, and sharing the points on three occasions in their last five matches. This run began with three home games, starting with a goalless draw against playoff hopefuls Weston-super-Mare.

A 3-2 win against Chelmsford City followed, with three goals in the first 29 minutes from Alfie Williams, Mauro Vilhete, and Jake Gray proving enough to secure the victory. Their third successive home game came a week later with a 2-2 draw against Slough Town. Although Hampton & Richmond Borough came from behind to take the lead, a Slavi Spasov penalty in the 79th minute meant the Beavers had to settle for a point.

Another goalless draw, this time on Boxing Day away at Farnborough, came before their most recent match which was a 2-0 Isuzu FA Trophy loss against Spennymoor Town at the Beveree Stadium. A brace from Glen Taylor secured the Moors’ spot in the next round.

Last Time We Met

Kwesi Appiah’s stoppage-time header rescued a point for Boreham Wood after Jake Gray’s first-half strike put Hampton & Richmond ahead. The Wood dominated possession early, with efforts from Whelan and Dixon thwarted, while Babajide went close for the hosts. The Beavers struck on the stroke of half-time through Gray’s close-range finish. The second half saw The Wood pile on pressure, with Dixon and Whelan denied and Revan clearing off the line. Appiah’s late goal ensured a dramatic 1-1 draw at the Beveree Stadium.

One to Watch

The Beavers’ talisman, James Roberts, will be one to watch tomorrow afternoon. After joining the club this summer from Havant & Waterlooville, he has scored an impressive 11 goals in all competitions this season, with nine coming in the Vanarama National League South.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s men have continued their impressive form from 2024 into the new year. A New Year’s Day dismantling of Slough Town started the year positively for The Wood, with a hat-trick from Kwesi Appiah and a brace from debutant Matt Rush securing a 5-1 win.

Our previous match was a 2-1 win at Weymouth in the Isuzu FA Trophy Fourth Round. After a competitive first half, The Wood took the lead through another Matt Rush goal in the 61st minute. Jon Benton doubled the lead in the 84th minute, securing the win despite a late stoppage-time goal from Andy Robinson.
