Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side face one of the furthest away trips of the campaign as we are on the road to lock horns with Gateshead, kicking-off at 15:00.
It looked like Gateshead would be in contention for promotion to the Football League early on in the 2024/25 campaign which saw them hold top spot for large spells. However, their form dropped off and the Tyneside outfit missed out on a play-off place on the final day of the season with defeat to Southend United, who finished one point ahead of the Heed in seventh.
An experienced striker who has plied his trade for a plethora of clubs in the EFL, Frank Nouble is now in the north-east looking to fire Gateshead up the table. With sides including Colchester United, Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient on his CV, the 34-year-old made the dip into non-league with Torquay United in 2023 before guiding Yeovil Town to a National League South proomotion ahead of his move to Gateshead in March.
The Wood will be looking to bounce back from a first home defeat since the first game of the season after suffering a 2-1 loss at the hands of Tamworth last time out. Although Matt Rush opened the scoring with his ninth goal in ten games, the Lambs fought back and headed back to Staffordshire with three points thanks to Ben Milnes’ penalty as well as Manny Duku’s second-half strike.
Our last clash with the Heed came in March of last year when the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw thanks to Dajaune Brown’s last-gasp equaliser to cancel out a Kabongo Tshimanga opener.
The first meeting between the two sides of the 2023/24 campaign came on the opening day of the season in another share of the points, a 2-2 draw in the North East.
