Match preview: Forest Green Rovers (H)

20 February 2026

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s side lock horns with Robbie Savage’s Forest Green Rovers in a vital clash between two promotion hopefuls, kicking-off at 15:00.

Last season for the Rovers

Forest Green nearly made an immediate return to Sky Bet League Two last term after finishing in third place. However, they fell short in the play-offs after a penalty shootout defeat to finalists Southend United which resulted in the departure of Steve Cotterill.

One to watch

A key figure in Forest Green’s rise up the leagues in recent campaigns, Christian Doidge is looking to guide their return back into the Football League. Having netted 59 goals in 108 appearances in all competitions at The New Lawn, the 33-year-old Welshman ended his three-year spell with stints at Bolton Wanderers as well as Hibernian and Kilmarnock before returning to Gloucestershire last year.

The Wood

It was a night to remember last time out as we progressed to the final of the National League Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Truro City. Late strikes from Regan Booty and Matt Rush ensured the Wood will now be facing West Ham United U21’s in the showpiece final.

Our last league clash came with a trip to Eastleigh on Saturday and the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw. Zak Brunt cancelled out Aaron Blair’s opener on ten minutes before Lewis Richardson put us ahead for the first time in the match with 25 minutes on the clock. However, Jake Tabor’s strike 11 minutes into the second-half meant we headed back to Hertfordshire with a point.

Previous meetings

We made the trip to The New Lawn in October as the hosts prevailed with a 2-1 win. Jili Buyabu opened the scoring with a composed strike on 34 minutes before Rush drew level with a fine strike from the edge of the box with 65 minutes on the clock. However, Harvey Bunker restored their one-goal cushion ten minutes later to seal the points.
