Match preview: Chippenham Town (H)

24 January 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men host Chippenham Town in the Vanarama National League South, kicking off at 15:00.

Last season for the Bluebirds

Chippenham Town had a comfortable year in the Vanarama National League South last season. The club finished 12th with 62 points, mirroring their performance in the previous season, which also saw them secure the same points tally.

Form guide

The Bluebirds have struggled in recent weeks, managing only one win in their previous five matches. This run began with a 3-0 defeat on Boxing Day following a visit from local rivals Bath City. A brace from Scott Wilson, along with a debut goal from former Chippenham player Brad Ash, earned the Romans an important three points.

Chippenham bounced back with a 3-1 win at play-off hopefuls Weston-super-Mare. The away side were 2-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Will Dawes and Harry Parsons. EFL veteran Reuben Reid brought the Seagulls back into the game just after half-time; however, a second goal from Will Dawes in the 56th minute secured the three points for Chippenham.

A draw at Tonbridge Angels followed, before back-to-back defeats at home for the Bluebirds. A 1-0 loss to Salisbury and a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Worthing have stalled Chippenham’s progress up the league table.

Last time we met

Boreham Wood secured a 1-0 win at Chippenham Town. Kwesi Appiah’s 26th-minute header from Tom Whelan’s corner proved decisive. The hosts created chances, with Leone Gravata and Luke Spokes testing Nathan Ashmore, but the Wood keeper was solid. After the break, Chippenham dominated possession but lacked a cutting edge. Harry Parsons and Tom Mehew went close for the Bluebirds, while Abdul Abdulmalik nearly added a late second for Wood. Strong defending ensured the visitors held on to the win.

One to watch

Harry Parsons will be a player the Wood will look to keep quiet tomorrow afternoon. The 22-year-old, who signed from Vanarama National League side Maidenhead United last summer, has scored an impressive ten goals in all competitions so far this season and contributed three assists.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s men have been in electric form in recent weeks, propelling the Wood to the top of the league. The Wood have only lost once in their previous 15 matches across all competitions, and that impressive form has carried into the new year.

The Wood Army’s only loss in this run came against Wormley Rovers in the Herts Senior Cup. A rotated side endured a 4-1 defeat at Wormley Playing Fields, concluding the side’s campaign in the cup. The Wood bounced back with consecutive wins in the Vanarama National League South. Kwesi Appiah’s winner at Welling United secured three points for Luke Garrard’s side, followed by a comfortable 3-1 win over Hampton & Richmond Borough. This victory sent the Wood to the top of the table after 26 games.
