HUDDART: I’M JUST TRYING TO DO THE BEST THAT I CAN FOR THIS CLUB

20 November 2018

Wood stopper Ryan Huddart praised his teammates, following another clean sheet, in the 0-0 draw against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.

We caught up with The Wood’s shot-stopper following the final whistle, to get his reaction from the game.

“I think it was a very close game,” Huddart began. “They started a little better than us in the first half and they really came at us. During the first 20 minutes, we didn’t really get out of our half, but as the game went on, we grew to the point where I think we should have won.

“It was an exciting 0-0 draw, the most exciting 0-0 draw I’ve ever played in. It was a good game and I enjoyed it.”

While the Wood may not have taken home all three points, another clean sheet was a welcome positive for Huddart and his teammates.

“I’m just trying to do the best that I can for this club. That’s seven clean sheets now, my managers just told me that.

“We just have to keep going. Yes, it’s a bit unrealistic to keep a clean sheet every week, but we will have to see what we can do.”

The 21-year-old was also keen to give credit to his Wood team mates, for the increasingly regular stop-outs.

“It’s not just me, it’s the back five and the midfield players as well, it’s all of us, but I’m the last line of defence. The first line is Josh Umerah and Gozie [Ugwu] and I am the last line. The whole team has kept seven clean sheets, not just me.”

Looking ahead to the game this Saturday against AFC Fylde, Huddart was feeling confident going into the fixture.

“It’s a long trip and I’m sure it’s going to be another tough game. We need to go up there and put in a proper away performance and leave with the three points as well.”

Huddart is also continuing to grow in confidence game by game and feels that he is improving each week.

“I think each game I feel more and more comfortable in the goal. Obviously, we’ve kept seven clean sheets, but I feel more comfortable in that goal every game. I think I’m growing in confidence and I think in training I’ve gotten better and better.”
