‘ASH’ SIGNS UP FOR TWO MORE YEARS

22 April 2022

Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce the contract extension of Wood Army favourite Nathan Ashmore on a new deal that will see the goalkeeper remain at the LV BET Stadium Meadow Park until the end of the 2023/24 season at least, with an option to extend his stay for a further year until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Nathan arrived at Meadow Park in October 2019, originally on loan from then-National League counterparts Ebbsfleet United, before signing permanently with the Wood in the summer of 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic on a two-year contract.

In his first season at Meadow Park, Nathan was an influential figure in a Wood side that reached the 2019/20 end of season National League play-offs after a fifth placed finish in a curtailed season due to COVID-19. Despite his best efforts with a man of the match performance, Wood succumbed at the semi-final stage to eventual play-off winners Harrogate Town.

A season later, Nathan continued his fine form between the sticks in a Wood shirt, and despite a tame league campaign for Garrard’s men during the 2020/21 season, ‘Ash’ and his teammates made history reaching the FA Cup 3rd Round for the first time in the Club’s history.

Nathan’s excellent form extended into the 2021/22 season, keeping 7 clean sheets in the opening 13 fixtures of the campaign before suffering a long-term hip ligament injury away at Chesterfield in late-October. After being sidelined for almost 5-months, Nathan joined fellow National League side Maidenhead United on a short-term loan in mid-March and picked up immediately where he left off, keeping 4 clean sheets for the Magpies during his time at York Road whilst assisting in their recent upturn in form, cementing their National League status for next season.

Nathan has been an instrumental figure within the dressing room during his stay at Meadow Park as a tremendous leader both on and off the pitch for Luke, deputising Skipper Mark Ricketts on several occasions. Upon capturing Nathan’s signature on a 2-year contract extension, Gaffer Luke Garrard commented, “I’m absolutely delighted to get Nathan signed. This was always going to be on the agenda once we knew how he returned successfully from his long-term injury. We are thankful to Maidenhead United and Alan Devonshire for offering him game time, and during that period away from Meadow Park he was able to play eight matches, keeping a total of four clean sheets in the process…

“That to me shows the level of performer Nathan is. With Nathan we know what we are signing on and off the field and that is huge plus for us as the Football Club. This is another building block with this historic squad, and we are hopeful for many more successes with “Ash” between the posts…” Garrard concluded.

Nathan, we are delighted you will still be calling Meadow Park home until the end of the 2023/24 season, at least!
