WOOD PERSISTENCE REWARDED IN DEADLINE DAY DEAL

31 August 2016
LUCAS V FOREST GREEN

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce that we’ve been rewarded for our patience, on the very last day of this seasons summer transfer window. As we have secured young striker Jamie Lucas from Bristol Rovers on a long term loan until January 28th 2017..

Jamie became a firm fans favourite with the ‘Wood Army’ last August, when he arrived from Bristol Rovers the day before the 2015/16 season started and went on to score on his debut in a 3-1 victory over Halifax..

Though Jamie was recalled on two occasions by Rovers manager Darrell Clarke last season. It was not before he scored 7 goals in 19 starts for Wood and as such he will be no stranger to either Meadow Park or the National League..

Jamie actually ended the 2015/16 season as BWFC’s top goal scorer and as such it was an easy decision. In truth discussions had gone on all summer, so when Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke contacted Wood Chairman Danny Hunter to green light the deal last week it was all systems go..

After that it took a quick conversation between the Chairman and Wood Gaffer Luke Garrard and Luke had absolutely no hesitation in wanting to get the deal done. However as with most loans and transfers these days, it does seem that there are always more than just two clubs and a player involved in these things and as such it was a great relief to finally get the paperwork signed and the deal done today..

On welcoming Jamie back to the club, Wood gaffer Luke Garrard said “The Chairman and club enjoy a great working relationship with Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke and Darrell has been brilliant to us. By placing Jamie with us again, he has shown his trust in what we’re trying to achieve here. Darrell knows that Jamie will get looked after correctly but Jamie must now really push on, start playing men’s football on a regular basis and start realising his potential.. I’m excited to be working with the player again and hopefully I can improve him and get him firing in the coming months. He is a year older, a year stronger and also now a year wiser. With the likes of Angelo Balanta, Morgan Ferrier and a soon to be fit Anthony Jeffrey, it will give me great attacking options and we did need to add goals to our squad”..
