Boreham Wood Football Club were saddened to learn of the death of former Reserve & Youth team Coach Micky Darling, who passed away last week after suffering with Parkinson’s disease.
Micky had a distinguished playing career in the 1970s, most notably with Enfield FC and then Cheshunt. While his brother Paul played for Boreham Wood around the same time.
Micky arrived at Meadow Park in the early 1990s, to help run our reserves and youth team as Assistant to another Wood old boy, in the late great Ray Kierstenson.
During their time together here Micky and Ray enjoyed some superb successes at the club. Before Ray along with Micky took over the first team at Potters Bar, where they enjoyed one of the most successful periods in the clubs history.
Micky was a coach, who was loyal, who always encouraged his players to play a passing game and got young players to express themselves. Mick was always old school and happy to talk football, especially after games in the clubhouse, where he would often enjoy his cigar and a pint, always topped up with a bottle of Light Ale!.
Micky’s funeral will be at St Joseph’s Church Waltham Cross on Thursday 22nd December 2016 at 10:00. There will then be a celebration of his life at Cheshunt Country Club from 12:00 noon.
