Boreham Wood Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of seasoned defender Will Wright, who swaps the Hive for WD6 on a three-year deal.
Upon joining the club, Wright expressed his excitement at the opportunity to succeed and contribute to the club’s success.
His first words having joined Boreham Wood: “It’s all very exciting. It’s obviously a very exciting time for the club, for myself and for the fans. Hopefully the club can go one better and hopefully I’m here to help that and we can achieve the obvious goal the club has set out.“
Born in Luton, Wright started his career in the Hatters’ academy before making his first senior move to Biggleswade United.
He’s enjoyed several successful moves since, with spells at the likes of Colchester United, Dagenham & Redbridge, Swindon Town, Crawley Town and Barnet.
It was with the Daggers where Wright really made a name for himself in 2018.
He described his time in East London as “full of ups and downs”, but said he loved his time there. Having made over 130 appearances and captaining the side to an eighth-place National League finish in 2018/19, Wright enjoyed a successful spell with the Daggers, having joined the club at a young age,
Perhaps his most successful move to date, Wright embarked on his Crawley Town journey in 2023, guiding the side to promotion from League Two. Integral to the achievement, he started almost every match, making 54 appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals.
An imposing figure at 6’4, Wright offers more than just strength at the centre of defence. Versatile and willing, he’s comfortable playing at right-back and even in holding midfield.
Excited by the signing, manager Luke Garrard commented, “Will is someone I have admired for some time, he has real quality in possession of the football and is a perfect fit for our style and the way we play.
He brings a wealth of experience having been in the EFL for the last five seasons and he is coming into his twilight years, and we know we can get the best out of him.
He joins a very competitive squad and will bring much-needed competition in our defensive unit.
