Boreham Wood Football Club are thrilled to announce the signing of defender Oliver Bainbridge, who joins the Wood on a permanent basis from Premier League side Sunderland AFC.
Bainbridge progressed through Sunderland’s academy system before signing his first professional contract with the Black Cats in 2023. The defender quickly established himself as a regular for the club’s under 21 side, making 20 appearances in Premier League 2 during the 2023/24 campaign. His consistent performances earned him further opportunities and highlighted his potential as one of Sunderland’s brightest young prospects.
Having gained senior experience during a season-long loan spell with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, Bainbridge made his league debut against Celtic and later featured in the UEFA Conference League against Norwegian outfit Tromsø. More recently, he impressed during a loan spell with South Shields, earning a place in the National League North Team of the Season for 2025/26. Bainbridge has built a reputation as an energetic, attack-minded left back with excellent technical ability and versatility.
