Welcome, Joe Newton!

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to unveil our first signing of the summer, dynamic and determined 24-year-old left back Joe Newton! Newton arrives in WD6 after a strong, two-year spell with fellow National League contenders, Solihull Moors.

A local lad from nearby Hatfield, Newton’s performances with Royston Town early on in his career earned him a move to Coventry City in 2019, where he spent two valuable years developing at under-21 level.

Newton’s journey then took him to the south coast, where he became a standout performer for Havant & Waterlooville. Across two seasons, he was a key figure in the Hawks’ back line, racking up 80 appearances in the National League South and showcasing his defensive prowess.

That form didn’t go unnoticed. In the summer of 2023, Solihull Moors swooped in, and Newton delivered. Over the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, he cemented his status as a crucial part of the Moors’ setup, tallying more than 70 National League appearances.

His rise reached new heights when he made three appearances in the National League Play-Offs, including the 2024 Promotion Final at Wembley. Newton played the entire 120 minutes of that dramatic showdown, but heartbreak followed as Solihull narrowly missed out on EFL promotion, falling to Bromley in a tense penalty shootout.

Now, Newton brings his National League experience to Luke Garrard’s side and will no doubt be a valuable asset in our return to the summit of Non-League Football next season. We’re delighted to have Joe on board and can’t wait to see him apply his trade in a Wood shirt!
