YOUNG WOOD MARCH ON

15 February 2017

Boreham Wood U/19’s claimed a place in the Semi Final of the Suburban League Cup, with a comfortable 2-1 win away to Uxbridge. The side had no fewer than 15 first years in the squad with the average age of just 17. They were up against an experienced Uxbridge side, who with the fixture on a Monday, also had their first team fringe players involved.

Manager Cameron Mawer, gave a reserve team debut to PASE player Mihai Mitu and he didn’t disappoint with an excellent debut. The goals on the night for the wood were scored by Daniel Crease and Iliman Ndiaye to complete a really good performance by this young group.

They now move on to play either Cray Wanderers or Tonbridge Wells in the semi final on Saturday 25th February at Meadow Park.

Manager Cameron Mawer spoke after the game “Tonight the first years again came to the table and their work rate and quality at times was really refreshing. It shows me just how much work they have put in in the last few months and its really starting to pay off, and above all it bodes well for the Academy’s strength next season”..

Mawer concluded “Now we must re focus on the Suburban league title, obviously having a semi final to look forward to, is hugely exciting for this young group of players, but winning leagues is the pinnacle of every players season”..
