Wood In Cup Semi-Final Action This Tuesday.

Local rivals St Albans City are our visitors on Tuesday night when the two sides will do battle for a place in the final of the Hertfordshire Senior Challenge Cup.

City last held the silverware back in 2004-2005 when they beat ourselves 2-1 in the Final. Since then they have failed to make the Letchworth County Ground, unlike ourselves who have lifted the Cup in 2007-2008 and again last year in dramatic circumstances. It was a night to remember with the clash with Bishops Stortford going to the wire. James Russell was our hero on the night saving two penalties in the shoot out to bring the Cup to Meadow Park.

These occasions are normally rip roaring affairs and both sides have enjoyed some emotional moments on their route to the Semi’s this campaign. Our 1-4 win at Hertford Town less so than the superb match at Broadhall Way when we defeated a very strong Stevenage outfit 3-5. We were forced to come from behind to lead 3-1 before Boro drew level only for us to go on and win the game.

However that pales into insignificance compared to the heroics of our visitors in the competition so far!

Trailing 0-3 at home to Cheshunt in the First Round in which we were afforded a bye, City amazingly recovered to run out 5-3 winners. After a less dramatic 0-2 win at Kings Langley in the Second Round, history repeated itself in their quarter final. City found themselves two down at home to Micky Hazard’s Hadley , before storming back to win that one 3-2.

A highly charged night of cup football is expected, with both sides keen to have something on show in the cabinet at the end of the season. Of course the fact that we are very close neighbours and City will be keen to enact revenge for a 2-1 defeat in the League here earlier this season adds flavour to the occasion!

With entrance prices dropped to £10 and £5 concessions it is hoped a large crowd will come and support their respective teams.

We look forward to seeing you all at Meadow Park!
