Boreham Wood FC can now confirm our retained list following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season, whilst wishing those departing the LV BET Stadium Meadow Park this summer the very best with their careers moving forward.

We would firstly like to thank loan players Taye Ashby-Hammond and Danilo Orsi who return to Fulham and Harrogate Town respectively for their efforts during their time on loan at the Club.

Manager Luke Garrard said this on Taye and Danilo following the conclusion of their loans, “I want to thank Taye for his time with us. He was great coming in and instantly taking over the baton from Nathan. He showed a calmness between the sticks and was instrumental in our progression in the FA Cup, especially with that double save at AFC Bournemouth. I know he will have a bright future, and we look forward to seeing his progression up the pyramid.

“Danilo was someone we targeted and were so excited to get his signature. He hit the ground running with a debut goal against Wealdstone, but unfortunately with our FA Cup run, it was hard for him to get a run in the side. I want to thank Danilo for all his efforts and wish him all the success in the future.” Garrard concluded.

Next up, following in depth conversations between the Manager Luke Garrard and Chief Executive Charlie Hunter, the Club wishes to thank all those players whose time at the Meadow Park has come to an end and have now left the Club. As such, we would especially like to thank James Comley, Adrian Clifton, Gus Mafuta, Scott Boden and Kane Smith for their hard work, dedication and service throughout a historic season and we wish each and every one of them huge good luck wherever their future may take them.

Gaffer Luke Garrard had this to say on the five players departing Meadow Park this summer, “Coms was a mid-season signing from Walton Casuals and had a real impact within the group. I’ve always had a great relationship with him, and his professionalism was fantastic throughout his time with us. I know he will be a great signing for any side, as he always gives 100%…

“Big Cliff had a big say in our historic FA Cup run with memorable goals against St Albans City and AFC Wimbledon. Those goals, especially the one against AFC Wimbledon, allowed for his very real story to be told, which captivated the nation. In truth, his story being retold by his mentor Ian Wright during our FA Cup run was one of the highlights of the Club’s year. Cliff is a true gentleman and is respected by everyone at the Club for the journey he’s been on, and we wish him all the best wherever his future takes him.

“Gus Mafuta has had two fantastic seasons with us here at Meadow Park, with some memorable performances during that time. One that stands out was the game where he scored two superb goals against his former side Hartlepool United in his first year. He is adored by the Chairman and staff alike and he has an infectious smile, one that we will all miss. We wish him all the best and thank him for his efforts during his time at the Club.

“Bodes is another who had a huge impact on our Club, equally off the pitch, as much as on it. He is a manager’s dream with his infectious personality and attitude and will be missed by myself and all involved at the Club. The nature of the man means he has left his mark on everyone across the Club, and we truly wish him all the best in the future and he knows how much he will be missed…

“Kane Smith, where do I start? What can I say? For me this is perhaps the hardest goodbye, Kano has been with us for a long time and it’s an end of an era for both him and us. He has been through loads but has, since his arrival, been monumental in all our success. He came here as an impressionable boy and now leaves us as a man. He’s had some tough injuries to overcome but has always faced them head on with hard work, discipline and with a smile on his face. We all hope he gets all the success that his attitude warrants.

“As a Club we say to all the lads that have chosen to move on or not had their contracts renewed, this is the business we’re in but we want to say a massive, massive thank you to you all, for being a huge part in the Club’s historic season. The journey we all went on was amazing and we wouldn’t have wanted to do it with any other group of players or staff. Thank you!” Garrard concluded.

With returning loan players and departures from Meadow Park established, the Club can confirm the following retained list for the 2022/23 season: –

Jamie Reckord
Femi Ilesanmi
Mark Ricketts
Will Evans
David Stephens

Frankie Raymond

The Club can also confirm that two players; Jamie Reckord and Frankie Raymond have now had transparent conversations with the Club and in view of our transfer targets and their own travel commitments combined with limited playing time foreseen next season, both players have been transfer listed and circulated to member clubs.

Furthermore, the Club can now confirm that the squad rebuilding process has already started in earnest, with some exciting players already signed on the dotted line, so we are naturally excited for next season.

Please note, as is our policy, out of respect to all our new signings and their present/previous clubs, as some players remain on their old club’s payroll until June 30th, NO new player signings will be announced until July 1st.
