Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce the signing of wing back Jacob Mendy Mendy from Wealdstone for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract.

The highly regarded Spanish-native joins the Wood following two seasons with the Stones at Grosvenor Vale, which included winning the National League South title in 2019/20, and winning the Stone’s Player of the Season award last campaign.

In what was a difficult season for the Stones upon their return to Non-League’s top table, Mendy was one of their shining lights, scoring 10 goals from left wing back whilst catching the eye of sides across the National League and above that, reportedly including turning down a move to our near neighbours Barnet earlier last season after the Clubs had agreed terms.

Jacob joined the Stones from Ryman League outfit Carshalton Athletic, having previously played at Redhill FC, though Jacob had begun his career in Spain within Atletico Madrid’s youth team set up before moving to the UK.

Upon bringing Mendy to Meadow Park for a Club record fee, a delighted Wood Chairman Danny Hunter said, “In truth after activating his buyout clause, I didn’t expect we’d be able to agree terms with Jacob in the current market, but if you don’t ask you don’t get…

“That said, the buyout clause was very simple and fair, Jacob was very level headed and realistic in his demands from the start and it quickly made things only about the football, the Club’s facilities, his hopes, his ambitions and of course his chemistry with our Gaffer Luke Garrard.

“This all meant the deal was done very quickly and painlessly. I’d also like to thank our friends at Wealdstone, namely Rory Fitzgerald and Paul Fruin, who were very professional and great to deal with.” Hunter concluded.

Upon the Club securing the services of Jacob, Wood Manager Luke Garrard commented, “Jacob is someone we have looked at throughout the season with great interest. For us to pay a record fee for Jacob shows the level of trust we have in him, he is someone I honestly believe will improve and really help kick us on…

“He comes with great athleticism, directness and an eye for goal. Scoring ten goals and assisting 8 in his debut season at this level from a wing back position shows the calibre of player we are signing.

“I can’t wait to get to work with Jacob, we have already discussed his strengths but also where I feel he can improve, and he wants to develop his game further during his time here at Meadow Park. I feel this is a great fit for both parties as we have a history in developing attack minded players in recent years, but also Jacob fits our shape superbly and he is an exciting addition to what is already a very good squad.” Garrard concluded.

Jacob will wear the number 17 shirt at Meadow Park.

Welcome to Meadow Park, Jacob!
