WELCOME, KWESI APPIAH!

14 July 2023

Boreham Wood are delighted to announce the signing of forward Kwesi Appiah following the mutual cancellation of his contract with League Two side Crawley Town. The 32-year-old arrives at Meadow Park after signing a two-year deal.

Kwesi began his career at Ebbsfleet United, coming through the academy at Stonebridge Road before signing with Peterborough United in 2008. Whilst at the Posh, Kwesi enjoyed various loan spells with Weymouth, Kettering Town and Thurrock, before joining Brackley Town permanently in 2010.

It didn’t take too long for Kwesi to earn his return to the EFL, when he was picked up by Crystal Palace in 2012 after scoring 35 goals in 34 total appearances for Margate.

Appiah continued to have loan spells throughout the EFL and National League at clubs such as Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town, Cambridge United, Notts County, AFC Wimbledon and Reading, before signing for AFC Wimbledon on a permanent basis in 2017.

Kwesi spent three years at Kingsmeadow with the Dons, notching 15 goals in 72 total appearances before joining Crawley in 2021. During his first season at the Broadfield Stadium, the frontman scored 11 goals in 26 league appearances. However, despite good form for the Red Devils during the 2021-22 season, Kwesi spent the majority of last season on loan at League Two side Colchester United. The forward’s season was limited by injury however his goals-to-game ratio was impressive, scoring on ten occasions in 17 games.

Upon his arrival to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park, Manager Luke Garrard commented, “I’m really happy to have signed Kwesi. He is someone that I have admired for some time, he will bolster what we have in the forward areas and bring a much needed experience to the group.  His goal scoring record has been very good in recent years and we hope he can bring an additional goal threat to our attacking unit. Having met him and had some very detailed talks, he will definitely have an important role in leading the group. I look forward to working with him.”

Welcome to the Wood, Kwesi!
