Boreham Wood are delighted to announce the arrival of right back Dion Kelly-Evans to the LV BET Stadium Meadow Park ahead of the 2022/23 National League season.

Arriving from fellow National League outfit Notts County, the 25-year-old will be keen to make amends after coming up short in last season’s play-offs and comes in with plenty of expectation to fill void on the right flank following the departure of Kane Smith this off-season.

Born in Coventry, Kelly-Evans joined the Academy of hometown team Coventry City and rose through the ranks, signing his first professional contract at the age of 19 at the end of the 2014/15 season. A handful of appearances on the bench saw him on the fringes of the first team during 2015/16, but he would eventually make his senior debut as a substitute on the final game of the season when he played 45 minutes against Oldham Athletic.

The wing-back made a breakthrough in the following campaign with 32 appearances in all competitions for the League One side, but the Sky Blues would suffer relegation at the end of the season with his place in the starting XI diminished during 2017/18. Seven appearances in all competitions during their play-off winning campaign brought an end to his time at the Ricoh Arena, with Kelly-Evans dropping into Non-League when he made the switch to Southern Premier Division Central side Kettering Town.

A successful 2018/19 season saw him play 46 times as the Poppies won the division, subsequently earning promotion to the National League North. Kelly-Evans’ performances meant he would rise even higher though, with recently relegated club Notts County making him a part of their first ever season outside the Football League. He would enjoy a mostly positive three years at Meadow Lane with the Magpies qualifying for the play-offs each season, though each year they didn’t clinch their return to the Football League, with defeats to Harrogate Town, Torquay United and Grimsby Town in respective years.

Dion is a quick and versatile wide defender who is able to play either as a wing-back or as a full-back and established himself as a top National League player with nearly 100 appearances for the Magpies. Additionally, his experience in a back three while at Notts, deployed mostly at right wing-back, will benefit his transition to the Wood and make him an exciting addition to the squad.

Welcome to the LV BET Stadium Meadow Park, Dion!
