Boreham Wood FC is delighted to announce the arrival of defender Charles Clayden at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium, Meadow Park, for an undisclosed fee.

Clayden began his career at Leyton Orient, where he made his professional debut in the 2017/18 season, coming on as a substitute on the final day of the National League Season.

He then joined Charlton Athletic on a free in May 2019. During his time at the Addicks, he made 18 appearances, including 10 in League One.

The 23-year-old also spent time on loan during his four years at Charlton Athletic, including spells at Dulwich Hamlet, Bromley, and Wealdstone.

In March 2023, he completed a permanent move to Wealdstone and made eight appearances at the back end of last season, scoring three times. This season, he has already made 15 appearances for the Stones before joining the Wood on a 2 and ½-year deal.

Upon his arrival, Luke Garrard had this to add: “Charles has been on our radar for some time; he has attributes that we feel really complement how we want to play. He can carry the ball at pace and commit defenders, and with a natural left foot, he will give us great balance in the wide areas. He’s only just turned 23 and has already featured 50 times in the National League, and we are all excited to see his progression over the coming years.”

Clayden will be available for tomorrow’s trip to Dorking Wanderers and will wear the number 23 shirt!

Welcome to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium, Meadow Park, Clayds!
