SMITH NOT TAKEN FOR GRANTED

GRANT SMITH

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of highly rated goalkeeper Grant Smith after a successful three week trial..

Smith was a product of the Reading Academy and came up through their youth teams before signing a 2 year deal with Fulham. His first pro deal though came with Brighton and Hove Albion, where Smith spent a further two seasons without making a first team appearance..

A move to Bognor Regis Town followed in 2015/16 and it was this move that allowed Smith to finally show everyone what he could do. In fact he not only cemented his place as Bognor’s No1 keeper but helped them to one of their greatest ever seasons..

In a season where Bognor reached the last four of the FA Trophy before bowing out to Grimsby Town. Grant continued to impress and played a big part in helping Bognor comfortably make the Ryman Premier League play offs, before losing to Dulwich Hamlet in a tense last minute semi final defeat..

On capturing the talented keeper, Wood gaffer Luke Garrard said “I’m very happy that Grant has shown me, the dressing room and my goalkeeping coach Glen Johnson that he has the character and mental strength to cement a place in what is already a very good squad. Grant is not the finished article just yet but with hard work and application we’re more than happy that Grant will not only deal with the step up but can prosper and I think like our previous keeper James Russell, that he’ll show himself to be a top, top keeper at this level”..
