Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce the signing of the highly sought after front man Matt Rhead, who has been on the club’s radar for months.

Experienced Rhead is no stranger to the National League having won the title with both Mansfield Town and more recently Lincoln City, where he also went onto win the League Two title last season and the EFL Cup at Wembley Stadium in 2018.

Rhead, who played 163 times for the Imps scoring 43 goals, left the club in the Summer of 2019, as opportunities might have been scarce at Sincil Bank following their promotion to EFL League One.

He was though made a big offer to sign for the once big spending Billericay Town and put pen to paper with the Essex club in July 2019. However, after just 11 appearances, he was forced to leave the New Lodge when then club owner Glenn Tamplin resigned, withdrawing his investment and thus leaving Matt as a free agent.

On getting this massive signing over the line a delighted Luke Garrard said, “I flirted with Matt for 5/6 months since he left Billericay. I think if you was to put him in the bracket of a target man, I think he’s one of, if not the best, at this level and above.”

Garrard continued, “You see him in the session today, he’ll bring a different aspect to our game, because we do like to play, we like to play through the thirds, but if teams full press us, we do have the opportunity to go back to front with Matt Rhead providing a focal point and real presence up top.

“He comes here with a wealth of experience and a hunger, which was evident for everyone to see during our session today. He’s a top, top guy, he wants to go about his business in the right way and we’ve got him on a short term deal until the end of the season, which I’m delighted about.”

Garrard concluded, “We both have an agenda of where we want to get to, so let’s marry that up and hope he has a successful spell at Boreham Wood.”

Welcome to Meadow Park, Matt!
