Alex Morgans goal in the 63rd minute was enough to put the Wood U’18s into the second round of the FA Youth Cup.

Northampton showed their superiority in the opening fifteen minutes but the Wood defended in numbers and grew into the game as it went on.

Sorba Thomas had a shot well saved by the Northampton keeper midway through the first half whilst the Wood limited the visitors to just long range efforts.

Second half the Wood started the better side and were marshaled superbly throughout by skipper Ben Goodliffe.

The defining moment came in the 63rd minute when Sorba Thomas raced down the left, eased past his man and put the ball on a plate for Alex Morgan who had run 50 yards to get into a position to enable him to put the ball beyond the Town keeper.

Northampton exerted pressure late on but fantastic blocks by Ben Goodliffe and Alex Radu preserved the Woods lead.

The referee finally brought the game to an end after 3 minutes of added time. There were scenes of jubilation as the Wood booked their place in the second round of the FA Youth cup and at the same time became the first Wood side to beat a Pro club in a competitive fixture.
