Tuesday 12th March 2024, 7:45 pm
The ARMCO Arena, Vanarama National League

Boreham Wood lost on the road for the second time in four days against play off chasing Solihull Moors in the West Midlands, following second half goals by Callum Maycock and Tahvon Campbell. Luke Garrard made two changes from the starting line up from Saturday’s defeat at Halifax Town with David Agbontohoma replacing Billy Sass-Davies at the back and Mo Sagaf coming in for Angelo Balanta in midfield.

It was a positive opening for Boreham Wood and on six minutes Kabs Tshimanga was able to turn Moors defender James Clarke before forcing a save from keeper Nick Hayes. The home side then started to apply some pressure and Jack Stevens fired straight at Nathan Ashmore in the Wood goal. Two minutes later, Tahvon Campbell twisted and turned before shooting just wide with Ashmore beaten. Moors continued to pull the strings with Stevens particularly impressive in their play. Tyrese Shade was off target for the hosts on twenty-nine minutes.

On thirty-six minutes, a good move involving Matt Robinson and Tshimanga created a chance for Mo Sagaf whose shot was deflected into the arms of keeper Hayes. Moors had a good chance to take the lead on forty-two minutes when Campbell went on an excellent run from midfield but fortunately for Wood, his shot was off target. A minute later, Lee Ndlovu went through on goal with scuffed his shot with only Hayes to beat. Boreham Wood were almost made to pay for that missed chance, a minutes later but Shade was denied by a good save from Ashmore. Wood would have been happy to go in level at the break.

HALF TIME: SOLIHULL MOORS 0-0 BOREHAM WOOD

Boreham Wood came out for the second half with renewed purpose and most of the second period was played in the Moors half. Sagaf went close with a free kick on fifty-five minutes, but Hayes was equal to it. Soon afterwards Joe Sbarra was just off target for the hosts. Just when Wood were in the ascendancy, Solihull took the lead on seventy-three minutes. Shade played an excellent pass to Maycock whose devastating finish gave Ashmore no chance in the Wood goal.

Unfortunately, that goal knocked the stuffing out of Luke Garrard’s men and Moors immediately looked like adding to their lead. They did just that on eighty-five minutes when Campbell finished well to wrap up the win for Moors. During the six minutes of added time, Wood were able to show some fight. Mark Beck’s last-ditch tackle prevented a certain goal by Sagaf and Tshimanga’s effort was well saved by Hayes. Sadly, it was too little too late.

It was another disappointing result for Boreham Wood in their attempt to beat the drop. Fortunately, other results went Boreham Wood’s way and Luke Garrard’s men even managed to climb one place in the table to eighteenth with Ebbsfleet getting thrashed at Aldershot Town. Saturday’s game at home against Altrincham is now massive and Wood will be desperate for a positive result.
