Wood Look To Make History In Cup Final.

This Tuesday evening both Hemel Hempstead Town and Boreham Wood can put their aspirations from the League campaign to one side. The two sides pair up at the Letchworth County Ground to contest the Final of The Hertfordshire Senior Challenge Cup.

Wood are looking to make history, having never previously retained the Cup. It was won from Hemel who held it after beating Potters Bar Town 2-0 in April 2013. That was the first time they held the Trophy since 1926, when Hemel Hempstead much like Boreham Wood was a mere village.

Back then there was a thriving paper industry at nearby Apsley and the club was known as Apsley End.

With both sides playing a string of “ must win “ games recently, the pressure cooker at the top of the Vanarama  Conference South is soon to reach its boiling point. Wood at the time of writing are still in the title race, whilst The Tudors home in on a play off place.

With both sides winning on Easter Monday, the belief is coursing through the veins of both sides and that will be shown on the pitch when we meet up for the third time this season . Our two previous encounters resulted in wins for The Wood, most recently a close fought game just three weeks ago, resulting in a 1-0 win for Ian Allinson’s men.

Last years Cup victory was a memorable night , one which the gaffer admitted to,“ Enjoying immensely. It was a real game of football and went right through to sudden death. We are really proud as a club to hold the Cup this season and would like to be able to retain it for the first time!”

Both sides have held the Cup aloft on five occasions, three of ours coming this century, beating London Colney (2002), Ware (2008) and then last seasons epic against Bishops Stortford, which finally ended around 10.30pm when James Russell disappeared under a seas of players after saving three penalties in the sudden death shoot out.

Wood fans are encouraged to make the journey up the A1 to enjoy what promises to be another emotional evening in what has been the most memorable season ever!
