The Wood embark on one of our longest journeys of the season this coming Saturday to take on Gateshead.

The Heed, have spent much of their life in the conference national (now, National League), apart from a spell where money dried up and they had to begin life back in the Northern Premier league. They however won promotion back to the top tier of Non-League Football in 2008-09 following a 2nd place finish. They went on to beat Telford in the play- off final.

Last year Gateshead finished 10th despite being in or around the play off places for much of the season. They were unable to repeat the previous season’s best of a 3rd place finish, losing to Cambridge United in the play-offs.

They have a new man at the helm in the form of Malcolm Crosby, who replaced Gary Mills who left for Wrexham in the summer.

Crosby spent much of his playing days at Aldershot and York City, before moving into management as Assistant Manager at York City. York City Manager Denis Smith was appointed as Sunderland boss in 1988. He took Crosby with him as his assistant. In 1991 Smith was sacked and Crosby was put in temporary charge. He took charge permanently and was in charge for two years before being sacked.

Crosby also had caretaker spells at Oxford United, Northampton Town and Birmingham City.

Like ourselves Gateshead have taken 3 points from their opening two games. They had a fantastic opening day win away at Aldershot Town, before suffering a 4-1 defeat on Tuesday evening against title favourites Tranmere Rovers.

We followed up our opening day victory against Halifax Town with a cruel defeat to Eastleigh on Tuesday night.

Your support at both games has been fantastic, we have a supporters minibus making the journey and along with those driving and travelling by Plane or Train we hope you have a safe journey and get behind your side.

Come On You Wood!

Gateshead v Boreham Wood.

Gateshead International Stadium, Neilson Road, Gateshead, NE10 0EF.

Saturday August 15th, kick off 3.00pm.
