JEFFERS JOINS BOREHAM WOOD

11 July 2017

Boreham Wood are excited to announce the arrival of striker Shaun Jeffers from Chelmsford on a one-year deal, with the option of a second.

The explosive striker netted 21 times in just 39 appearances last season as he led Chelmsford to the National League South Play-Off Final.

Having begun his career in the academy at Coventry, Jeffers departed the Sky Blues after only a handful of appearances to sign for Peterborough United.

However, after just one season with the Posh, Jeffers was on the move again to Newport County, as part of the deal that took Conor Washington to Peterborough.

A brief spell with Yeovil followed before the 25-year-old signed for Chelmsford and enjoyed his most successful season to date with more than a goal every other game. His first coming in the form of an audacious bicycle kick against Margate.

Jeffers spent a brief period on trial with the Wood last season, but failed to earn a contract, having improved last season, he says that he has returned a better player.

Jeffers elated: “It is a great club, with a great ambition and I cannot wait to get started.

“I am definitely a better player than when I was on trial here last year, I am more confident in my own ability, I have proven what I can do and I am delighted that the gaffer got in touch with me again.

“My goal scoring record has improved on last year; my all-round play has definitely developed and I think that my game is coming together well.”

Having watched his development closely in the past 12-months, Garrard said that he is confident that the 25-year-old will hit the ground running.

“Shaun ticks a lot of boxes,” Garrard enthused. “Obviously we had close encounters with him last year for a week-to-10-days, but in the end, we decided against signing him and he went to Chelmsford.

“I think that he has had a very successful season in the division below, he has gotten a lot of games under his belt and developed a consistency.

“Like the others that we have signed, he fits the DNA of what we are looking for at this football club and I think that he will come and add to the group; he will bring power and pace to our team and he has got an eye for goal.

“His character is something that I really enjoyed and he has a technical ability that stood out to me, obviously it is now up to him to prove himself at the next level, and I believe that he will do.”
