GROUNDSMAN’S WORK RECOGNISED

11 August 2013

Meadow Park Stadium and our Award Winning PitchBoreham Wood Football Clubs head groundsman Daniel Hunter was honoured this week at the prestigious ‘Groundsman of the year’ awards, held at St Georges the new home of English football..

Daniels endless hours of dedication to his craft and often unseen preparation of his pitch in every element of rain, wind, snow and sun, saw his hard work recognised by both the FA and the Premier league’s groundsman who judged and rated every non league pitch up and down the country.

According to the judges, Daniels work was of such a standard that it allowed them to score his pitch care and maintenance programme, above all but just three clubs throughout the whole of English non league football.

A BWFC spokesman said ” Our pitch through Daniels hard work is rightly well received by the Conference league, visiting teams, officials, Arsenal Ladies, the WSL, the FA and UEFA.

The overall best pitch accolade this year deservedly went to the Grimsby Town groundsman. However we should remember that Grimsby are a former football league club with five times Daniels budget. So it was a huge honour and accolade for Boreham Wood Football Club to know that our head groundsman who it must be remembered, is a self taught local man came fourth out of thousands and thousands of clubs and all his hard work was deservedly recognised nationally”.
