GARRARD MAKES HIS MARK

10 June 2016
Mark Ricketts

Boreham wood FC are absolutely delighted to announce the signing of Woking’s highly rated and well thought of captain, Mark Ricketts.

Ricketts who began his career at Charlton Athletic, had a loan spell at League One club MK Dons in the 2005–06 season, where he made his debut in the FA Cup 1st round tie up at Lincoln City.

In August 2006 after not being offered a new deal at Charlton, Ricketts decided to sign for Ebbsfleet. He went on to make made 31 appearances for Ebbsfleet in the 2006–07 season, where his performances were rewarded with the offer of a new and improved contract.

In June 2009, Mark decided to leave Ebbsfleet and sign for then Conference South club Woking Football Club. In 2010 Ricketts was made the Cards club captain and he has been an automatic choice ever since.

Mark leaves the Surrey based club in great shape and with three top twelve finishes in the last three seasons. He also made over 200 appearances for them and can now hopefully help Boreham Wood Football Club to achieve further success in the next few years.

Wood manager Luke Garrard said “I’ve known and admired Mark for some time and played against him enough times over the years. He was a player who I didn’t feel we would ever get but things have changed over the last few years. What with our promotion and with Woking’s well publicised budget cuts, I just felt it was certainly worth a phone call to see where the land lay”.

From the moment I met up with Mark and showed him round our facility, he impressed me and he is a natural born leader. I felt quite quickly, that we would be able to find a way to make the deal happen and I’m very glad to say that I was right”.

“Again I have to thank our Chairman for backing me on this and the supporters should be very happy with our business and summer signings to date. Mark is a quality signing, he is versatile and he will give us a real know how in the centre of the park”. Garrard concluded.
