FAREWELL OLD FRIEND

3 July 2024

Boreham Wood Football Club are heartbroken to announce that our much loved, long standing supporter and club benefactor Alan Swan has sadly and unexpectedly passed away.

Over the past decade or more, since moving to Borehamwood, Alan became a true member and character within the ranks of the “Wood Army”, following the Wood both Home and Away.

In recent years due to Ill health getting to away games was a struggle for him but Alan along with his partner Margaret were still regulars at Meadow Park and were always on the Chairman’s guest list for most home games.

Not only was Alan a great club man, supporter and friend to the Club, he was also an unbelievably loyal and passionate sponsor who helped the club in so many ways.

Back in 2020/21, when the club’s  association ended with Barnet and Southgate College, the front of shirt sponsorship became available. As soon as Alan became aware of this, he stepped in without hesitation, fronted the cost and created our ‘Wood Army’ mantra on our front of shirts.

So we thank Alan for his foresight, his generosity, for his charm and support “WOOD ARMY” is now our brand, it has been forefront on the Wood’s playing shirts since 2020/21 and will again be front and centre for the 2024/2025 Season.

A full eulogy will follow in due course, but Alan’s great friend and Club Chairman Danny Hunter said “in truth both Mandee and myself are devastated, Alan became a club confidant and was part of my inner circle for many years. Alan was knowledgeable in life, he was also one of my biggest friends in football and I only found out the sad news of his passing when landing back from Germany on Monday morning. If I needed any more motivation to help us win the league this season, then Alan Swan’s passing has given me that motivation” Hunter concluded.

Everyone within the Boreham Wood Football Club family sends our love and sincere condolences to Alan’s Partner Margaret, his children Daniel, Matthew, Annie, Victoria and the rest of his family and friends at this very sad time.

The club will announce funeral and wake details once known, as we are sure several members of the “Wood Army” would wish to attend and pay their respects. Farewell Old Friend.
