ERICO IS BACK!

28 June 2024

Boreham Wood is delighted to welcome back Erico Sousa to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Born in Vale de Amoreira, Portugal, Erico moved to England at the age of 10. He joined Manchester City’s renowned youth academy at 15, before spending three years in the academy setup at Barnsley.

In June 2021, Sousa signed with National League side Grimsby Town on a one-year contract following their relegation from League Two. Under Paul Hurst’s guidance at Blundell Park, Erico played a pivotal role in the Mariners’ successful season, making 33 appearances as they secured promotion back to League Two through an inspirational play-off campaign with victories over Notts County, Wrexham, and Solihull Moors.

Erico joined Boreham Wood in July 2022. Despite a season hampered by injury, limiting him to 26 National League appearances, he played a crucial role in the play-off semi-final against Notts County, where we narrowly missed out on a trip to Wembley.

Last season, Erico Sousa was a standout performer for the Wood, scoring 8 goals and providing 5 assists in 35 league appearances. His skillful dribbling and exciting play style made him a fan favorite. He ranked 2nd in the National League for key passes per game and was in the top 10 for most successful dribbles per game.

Erico’s exceptional contributions were recognised at the club’s end-of-season awards dinner, where the 29-year-old swept the honors, winning Manager’s Player of the Year, Supporters’ Player of the Year, and Players’ Player of the Year.

Upon his return to the Wood, Ross Jenkins stated, “I’m really pleased we’ve managed to bring Erico in. He’s a player I’m very much looking forward to working with this season and I’m confident he will bring energy and quality into our group.”

Welcome back to the Wood, Erico. We can’t wait to see you back on the pitch.
