Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce the arrival of midfielder James Comley at the LV Bet Stadium Meadow Park.

James, a Montserrat International, joins the Wood having enjoyed spells with St Albans City, Kettering Town and Maidenhead United amongst others and arrives with a wealth of experience at National League level.

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder began his career with Crystal Palace, making four senior appearances for the Eagles before departing Selhurst Park in 2010. After a short spell with Canvey Island, it was his time with our near neighbours St Albans City where Comley made a name for himself within the non-league landscape.

Across two spells at Clarence Park between 2012 and 2016, sandwiched by a brief spell with Kettering Town, Comley made a total of 146 appearances for the Saints, scoring 15 goals, whilst helping the Saints clinch their return to the Conference South via Southern Premier League play-offs in 2014. During his time at Clarence Park, ‘Coms’ would earn a call up to Paul Fairclough’s England C side, making a single appearance against Turkey’s under 23’s in October 2014.

In the summer of 2016, after a brief spell on loan with Maidenhead United from the Saints at the back end of the 2015/16 season, Comley would join the Magpies on a permanent basis. James, quickly established himself as a quality Conference South midfielder of note, making an instant impact with Maidenhead United and played an integral role in their 2016/17 National League South title winning side.

After five seasons with the Magpies, four of which were at National League level, Comley departed York Road at the end of the 2020/21 season having accumulated 196 appearances in total for Maidenhead United.

James will join former teammates Adrian Clifton and Taylor Ashby-Hammond at the LV Bet Stadium Meadow Park and will wear the number 16 shirt. He arrives in time to go straight into Luke Garrard’s match day squad for this evening’s visit to Meadow Park of one of the National League’s promotion favourites in Notts County.

Having thankfully not featured in the Emirates FA Cup this campaign, Comley also arrives at the Wood with FA Cup eligibility guaranteed and the potential to feature against his former employers St Albans City when we welcome the Saints to the LV Bet Stadium Meadow Park in the FA Cup 2nd Round Proper at the beginning of December.

Welcome to the Wood, James!
