U18’S MATCH REPORT – DOUBLE TROUBLE FOR MACCABI

27 September 2019

Boreham Wood U18’s took on Maccabi London U18’s in the Brian Hitchins Cup at the London Maccabi Sports Centre last night. The two teams battled the weather, as well as each other with a common goal in sight, progression into the next round.

Wood’s youngsters took the lead early through Keiron Owusu, who has been in fine form recently, and continued to show his class. Maccabi came back at the whites and equalised sharply to make sure they kept the Wood down to earth.

However, as the game went on, the double trouble strike force of Keiron Owusu and Darnell Kithambo was too much to handle for Maccabi, and as a result saw them go into half-time 2-1 down, thanks to another goal from Owusu.

The second half didn’t offer too much for either side, both sides not amazing in possession and for the select Wood players involved in the U19’s game on Wednesday afternoon, you could see it taking a toll.

Yet despite some fatigue, Kithambo wasn’t quite finished as he scored as quickfire brace, firstly converting his penalty before scoring his second of the night after some smart play from Semakula found Kithambo at the top of the box, calmly slotting away a strike from just inside the Maccabi area making the score 4-1 to the Wood. Therefore, in the end easing Boreham Wood into the next round.

Boreham Wood Academy Manager Cameron Mawer had this to say, “We didn’t move the ball quick enough at times, sloppy in our decision making, but to score 4 goals and win the game was the objective, so I’d say I’m fairly happy.”
